Doug Adair is an internationally-known association and business executive, specializing in technology transfer; resource acquisition / fundraising; licensing agreements; trade facilitation; project development and management; logistical support; development of learning and collaboration strategies; identification of criteria for competencies and standards; curriculum design; integration of media and instructional technology; re-purposing of digital content; administration of assessments and certifications; and systems development.
He has worked with a broad spectrum of clients from Fortune 100 companies, small and medium enterprises, national and regional associations, and international non-profit organizations to multilateral organizations and national and local government agencies, including the Caribbean Hotel Association, leading international hotel companies, SEBRAE (Brazilian Micro and Small Business Assistance Service), OSID (Obras Sociais Irmã Dulce in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil), Counterpart International, the Inter-American Development Bank, USAID (the United States Agency for International Development), the United States Federal Government, and the Government of Fairfax County, Virginia.
Doug Adair is considered a leading expert on the hospitality and tourism sector, sustainable tourism development, and workforce development for multiple sectors. He was Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Council on Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education (CHRIE) in Washington, DC, from 1986 to 1996. CHRIE, an international organization with over 2,000 members in 50 countries, improves professionalism in hospitality and tourism (the world's largest industry) through education, training and human resource development. In his role as CEO of CHRIE, Doug worked with corporate and association executives, cabinet secretaries and government agencies, college and university presidents and officials, and national and international education leaders.
Prior to his appointment with CHRIE, he served as the Director of Education Services for the National Association of REALTORS in Chicago and Washington, DC. He is a graduate of Western Illinois University (WIU) in Macomb, Illinois, with a degree in Communications and study completed towards a Masters Degree in Business Administration.
Doug also serves as a facilitator for corporate planning sessions and other types of interactive meetings or as the on-camera host for video productions and videoconferences. He has served numerous clients including the Opryland Hotel, McDonald’s Corporation, Marriott International, Walt Disney World Company, and the Illinois Department of Tourism.
He speaks Portuguese and has a limited ability in Spanish.
