John Corcoran has a unique blend of corporate and association management and engineering experience that spans more than 35 years. As a senior association executive with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) he has been a key participant in strategic planning, organizational restructuring, operations management and strategy implementation. His responsibilities over the years at ASME included membership development, marketing, non-dues revenue generation, publications, conferences and exhibits, chapter relations, customer service, communications, the management of more than 90 staff in 6 locations and annual budgets of $20 million. He has experience working collaboratively with multiple boards and committees on program development, membership issues, member and chapter support, revenue generation and budgeting.

Among John’s achievements at ASME are the transition of staff from five business units into an integrated team that delivered effective services at significantly lower costs than budgeted, establishing and growing ASME’s presence in Europe and India, expanding non-dues revenues, restructuring dues for members from less developed economies, reversing a membership decline in an unfavorable environment, introducing on-line communities and shifting chapter support operations to the internet.

John’s career began in the automotive industry. With various engineering and management assignments with Ford, Exxon and the Environmental Protection Agency, he was involved in product development, safety research, alternative engine development, electric and hybrid cars and developing emissions control regulations. Further assignments in project and operations management for Exxon involved construction and renovation projects, operating strategies to reduce utility costs, and plant operations and maintenance.

John is a member of the American Society of Association Executives.
