Jack Macauley, a Plexus Consulting Senior Advisor, has more than 25 years experience as a strategic communications advisor to companies, including substantial international experience. Major companies that have called on Macauley’s counsel have included Chrysler Corporation, Deloitte & Touche, Bank of Boston, Philip Morris International, Kodak, Pepsi International, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Northern Telecom, Chase Manhattan, Procter & Gamble, and the Swiss watchmaker Patek Philippe. Macauley has particular expertise in identifying and managing multi-faceted communications teams to meet pan-regional or global communications objectives. Since the early 1980s, Macauley has led such teams across Western and Eastern Europe, Asia and Australia, and throughout Latin America -- in more than 50 countries worldwide. In addition to international communications work, Macauley also has an impressive track record of counseling senior management teams during times of change or crisis. He regularly advises companies on organizational communications strategy, and also is available for executive training facilitation sessions. Following his early career as a journalist in North Carolina -- including experience in print, radio and television news and sports -- Macauley spent nine years in corporate communications positions with RJR Nabisco. Together with an RJR colleague, he built that company’s first international corporate-affairs network in Latin America, Europe, Asia and North America. At age 32, Macauley was named to head RJR’s regional corporate-affairs function throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa, based in Geneva, Switzerland. Two years later, he began his work as a full-time consultant to companies at the European headquarters of Hill and Knowlton International, also in Geneva. The position relocated to London following the acquisition of Hill and Knowlton by U.K.-based WPP Group. Throughout this period, Macauley was responsible for a number of pan-European corporate accounts, led multi-country agency teams, and rose to the level of senior vice president, Hill and Knowlton Inc. In 1994, Mr. Macauley created and launched his own agency, The Americas Group, and built a proprietary regional network of associate firms in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Mexico. Operating standards for group members encouraged the joint development and collaboration of pan-regional accounts -- at that time, an entirely new concept in that region. Major clients of The Americas Group included Chrysler Corporation, Pepsi International, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Northern Telecom and Bank of Boston. From mid-1996 until December 2003, Macauley held a series of senior international corporate-affairs posts at Philip Morris International (“PMI”) and its parent company, Altria. As Director, International Corporate Affairs Strategy at PMI, Macauley helped lead an international tobacco industry working group focused on corporate responsibility programs. In 2003, Macauley designed and led worldwide professional development strategy and skill training programs for 300+ members of the global corporate affairs function. In recent years, Macauley has been a frequent guest lecturer on the
topic of international corporate communications, including presentations
at Thunderbird (the American Graduate School of International Business)
in Phoenix, AZ; at the Fordham University Graduate School of Business
Communication in New York; and at the University of North Carolina
Journalism School, Macauley’s alma mater in Chapel Hill, N.C. |
