Susan S. Stratton is dedicated to creating accountable performance in governance and leadership. Stratton assists clients when they seek to advance their organizations in a rational way. Her primary strength is in designing and delivering a process that leads to effective change in organizational behavior, beginning with the governing body.

Stratton’s customized process design integrates accountability, sound educational principles and an understanding of how people change. Stratton’s ability to step into a variety of leadership styles assures clients that each meeting is authentic and appropriate for the organization’s culture and specific needs.

Stratton’s specialty practice is focused on “owner-accountable” governance. She is graduate of the Policy Governance® Academy. She has coached organizations, spanning the private, public and not-for-profit sectors in the implementation of the model, designed by John Carver. This experience assures her clients that governance consulting goes beyond the theory and integrates practical applications as well.

As a facilitator, Stratton builds credibility with groups quickly. She designs a process and skillfully asks questions that lead to full group engagement. Stratton has particular skill in capturing the content of dialogue and bringing the group to consensus. Her skilled facilitation allows for a diverse range of opinions to be expressed, evaluated and prioritized in brainstorming, deliberative and planning processes.

Stratton holds a Master’s Degree in Education. With her strong background in education, Stratton designs an effective educational process that assures that the players advance their understanding of key issues and concepts, delivered in a manner that uses sound educational principles.

In her career, Stratton has been the lead consultant in the development of several successful educational pathways, including
• CAE On-Line Exam Preparation Program, sponsored by the Michigan Society of Association Executives.
• Township Governance Academy, sponsored by the Michigan Townships Association
• Management Impact Institute, sponsored by the Michigan Business and Professional Association
• New Employee Series for Insurance Agency Personnel

She is a popular conference workshop presenter due to her interactive and energetic presentation style.

In 2005, Stratton began working at the international level through USAID projects in Jordan, in conjunction with the Michigan Society of Association Executives. The USAID projects have focused primarily on business planning and education in association best practices. Additionally, those projects have resulted in three handbooks on association management topics published in Jordan as well as CAE graduates in that country.
