Sarah K. Bryant Bower has experience dealing
with businesses, governments, and associations in many areas of finance,
both international and domestic. This includes researching, analyzing,
interpreting, and evaluating complex financial and economic issues,
including risk management and regional trade and development. She
has conducted in-depth econometric and statistical analyses relating
to interest rate risk, as well as provided authoritative comments
on a wide variety of proposals and research studies, e.g., the US
Presidential Task Force on Hedge Funds.
Dr. Bryant Bower has also provided training on International Capital
Market Development in China, Beijing and Shanghai. She taught a series
of topics (three times) for mid- to senior-level managers of commercial
banks and finance companies in China on the US model of financial
development, with application to the Chinese markets. In addition,
she conducted an on-site study and wrote a report on "Trade Finance
in Africa" for USAID, which was subsequently published. During
this time, she became interested in Microenterprise Finance, especially
in Africa, whereupon she spoke at various engagements.
US domestic training has included the Federal Reserve Bank Examiner
School on Hedging Interest Rate Risk in Financial Institutions and
the FDIC Bank Examiner School and Office of Thrift Supervision Examiner
School on Mortgage Derivative Products, Interest Rate Risk Management,
and Hedging Interest Rate Risk in Financial Institutions.
Dr. Bryant Bower is currently Dean of the College of Business at Clarion
University of Pennsylvania. After working in US academia, government,
and private business for 17 years, she went to London to broaden her
experiences in the academic and international arenas. While there,
she served as Executive Director (Associate Dean) of the MBA Programme
at City University Business School in London, ranked 10 (EMBA) in
the world in the Financial Times, October 2001.
Before moving to London, Dr. Bryant Bower taught both undergraduate
and MBA finance courses at the University of Maryland, College Park,
as an adjunct instructor while working for the Department of Treasury
in the area of financial risk management of financial institutions.
Prior to that, she served as Department Chair of Finance and International
Business at Johns Hopkins University for four years.
Dr. Bryant Bower has published many articles on topics in international
finance and economics, and is currently authoring a textbook on International
Capital Markets, for a European publisher.
