William K. Krist is an expert in international commercial policy. He is a Senior Policy Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson Center, one of Washington, DC's premier think tanks, where he is working on issues related to trade and sustainable development. He is also head of Metis International, an international trade firm in Fairfax, Virginia. He has undertaken a number of consulting projects for USAID in numerous countries in sub-Saharan Africa. Mr. Krist has had extensive experience in trade association management. He started the international program at the American Electronics Association, the leading high tech association in the United States, and managed the program for 15 years. He led the association's advocacy work in Washington, DC, Tokyo and Brussels during this time, and assisted small member companies in export operations and investing in Europe and Japan. He also served as President of the Washington International Trade Association for three years; during this time he implemented programs that quadrupled membership and doubled program activity. His extensive government experience includes the White House Office
of the U.S. Trade Representative, where he was the Assistant USTR
for Industry Policy. In this position, he was responsible for administration
of U.S. safeguards legislation, including import relief for specialty
steel, autos and motorcycles. Additionally, he coordinated development
of U.S. export policy, including export trading companies, export
finance, and elimination of export barriers, and he led the U.S. delegation
on high tech issues in meetings with the European Union. Mr. Krist
also worked in both branches of Congress in developing trade legislation. |
