Washington, D.C. – August 28, 2006 Plexus President Steven Worth spoke at the annual American Society of Association Executives Meeting and Exposition last Tuesday in Boston, Massachusetts. Along with Virgil Carter – Executive Director of the American Society of Manufacturing Engineers – and Diane James, CAE – Executive Director of the Women’s Transportation Seminar International – Mr. Worth gave a presentation titled “Team of Rivals: Can it Work for You?” The presentation focused on Pulitzer Prized-winning author Doris Kearns Goodwin’s book Team of Rivals: Leadership Lessons from Abraham Lincoln that explores the wartime cabinet of President Lincoln’s administration. Worth’s presentation addressed how Lincoln’s leadership that involved working with rival interests – as opposed to excluding them – can be applied to the association community in both domestic and international settings. Steven Worth, Virgil Carter, and Diane James gave their collaborative presentation to a group of eighty association executives and conference attendees. Audio recordings of the speech are available for order at http://www.softconference.com/asae/xtensions. * The “Team of Rivals: Could it Work for You?” PowerPoint presentation and handout are also available.
