Facilitated Leadership Retreats

As honorific as a board of director title might sound there are very real responsibilities that go with the title; and there is also very real potential for every board member of any organization to do great harm or great good by how they interpret these responsibilities. This short day training and orientation session is intended to serve as a learning base for new board members as well as an opportunity for seasoned board members to re-evaluate their roles. The session is based on real-life experience of the boards of directors of trade associations, professional societies and foundations and uses an interactive approach that engages participants in thinking through solutions to problems they might encounter.

The session is divided into seven parts and focuses on the legal, fiduciary, operational and strategic responsibilities of a board of directors. It addresses both theory and best practices and is interwoven with Plexus-developed case studies. The timing and structure of the session are as follows:

Participants will receive a training manual at least one week prior to the session. The session itself will be led by one of Plexus's senior consultants who will be able to draw on at least twenty years of professional experience.

Some boards may wish to incorporate market or membership research into this exercise so that they can focus on the specific issues that may be of concern to their organization. Plexus' membership survey and market research services are available to be used for this purpose.
